Style Reboot

I'll admit, I haven't donned a lot of blog-worthy outfits lately, hence the limited blogging the past few weeks. I was running for elected office in my town, so I've been wearing an extensive wardrobe of black, gray and navy suits. But now the election is over (to positive results!) and I can commence blogging again.

It's funny what a few weeks off the style radar can do. While in my neutral suits, I found myself searching for ways to let my personality shine through, whether it was with my words, my behavior, or the hint of a fun bracelet underneath a long sleeve. I didn't think about getting dressed in the morning, I didn't read any fashion magazines, I didn't look at any blogs...and when I came back to them I was surprised at how...similar and uninspiring it all seemed. Everywhere were kitten heels and faded denim jackets - some modern-chic-80's-trend illustrated on every page, with every click. And I started to understand what my friend and fellow blogger Sami was talking about when she claimed "everybody wants to be Alexa Chung...everybody wants to be Kate Moss..."

While this might sound depressing, it actually felt like freedom - these past few weeks have been a fashion reboot. I'm not saying I'm going to start wearing intensely wacky outfits, or that I'm never going to look at the runway trends; I just feel re-invigorated, style-wise. It's all fun again! Which, when you think about it, is how fashion should be.

So I'll be back to blogging - I'm going to try posting on Mondays and Thursdays for awhile to see how that works with my new schedule...and of course, my readers. Let me know what you think!

  5. I like what you said here. It can be really exhausting to see the same neon, pattern mixing, arm parties, etc being done by every blogger out there. Sometimes it's really helpful to just tune out and do what inspires you. I love this outfit and all the cute details!

    1. It really made me appreciate the local group of Boston fashion bloggers even more than I previously did (which was a lot). We have some bloggers with really unique style - not the same thing I see on every blog. Some are pretty/feminine, some are classic chic, some are edgy and some...well, they just dress to their own tune (to great effect!). I don't know how unique my style perspective is - I'm just a woman who has to get dressed to go to work every day (and likes to have a little fun with it). But it's nice to look at trends and styles with fresh eyes!

  11. Aw, you're the sweetest! Thank you to referring to my blog rant =) I wish I could be more positive, but I honestly feel so bored sometimes-like we are swimming in a sea of monogram/ombre hair/ and cambridge satchels! Ha! Glad we are friends, love your style-- it's always inspiring =)

Wow! Congrats on being an elected oficial. I love this outfit and glad the "boring suit phase" is over. Good to hear you let your personality peek through in little ways.
