Multi Purpose

I love hearing from readers! Recently, I received this question from "E" on my Facebook page:

Dear Boston Fashionista: I had a problem last Friday night. I am getting ready to go to dinner, followed by comedy club, followed by bar....I have nothing to wear. And by that I mean: I have t-shirts and shorts/sundresses and I have suits. But I have nothing in between. More than that...I am not sure if I even know HOW to dress for this situation..."

"E", it sounds like everything you are doing is somewhat casual (I'm assuming this isn't fancy, otherwise you could have solved the problem with a cocktail dress - and honey, I know you can rock a cocktail dress). Keeping it casual, I'm thinking a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. But to spice things up, add a few special details. Funky shoes, a lace cardigan, a statement necklace and a skinny belt take this from jeans and a t-shirt to night out on the town.

What do you think? How would you solve "E"s fashion predicament?

Remember, I need your help choosing a pair of pants. I promise to abide by your wishes!

Obsessed with this outfit, and that's the perfect solution. Jeans + cute top + heels can be dressed up or down so many ways, and a cardigan is a great addition to change it up between locations!

  5. That's why I love ACCESSORIES! They can literally dress up anything! Jeans, fitted v-neck t-shirt, black pumps, and bold colorful accessories would make her look like a million bucks!

love your necklace by the way! I need a chunky statement!

  8. Great style tips for E! I'd also suggest a sequins top with skinny jeans or black pants with a pair of knock-out heels. That should work for a restaurant, comedy club, and a bar! I love the mustard yellow cardigan as well as that necklace!

  9. I have this predicament a lot as well! Since I work from home I own a LOT of cargo capris and scoop necked tshirts, and a few officy outfits for when I need to travel for business (but not NEARLY as much as someone who goes into an office every day).

I wound up pairing the scoop necked tee with a black skirt from the work wardrobe, heels, a wide belt and chunky jewelry.

  10. i like this quandry! i am sure this lovely lady also has a few skirts in her closet - even a suit skirt. i would pair a funky graphic tee with a skirt, which is still casual but has a bit of dressy-ness as well. also i agree with you - accessories are key to making any look killer!

i love your outfit choice, just perfect!
