What's your checklist for the perfect vacation destination? Does it include: a breathtaking beach, entertaining activities for kids and adults, world-class golf, a dreamy spa experience, a variety of delectable meals and beverages, a cozy fire pit on a ocean-view terrace, luxurious amenities, a charming location, exemplary service, a private beach fire on the water, and perhaps even an Instagram-worthy beach bar right on the bay? Mr. TBF and I were recently hosted by Ocean Edge for some time on the water, and take it from me, it's more than possible to have a weekend that's both relaxing and activity-filled, on the ocean, the golf course, and at the Victorian mansion at the heart of the resort. We arrived late on a Friday afternoon (stopping in historic Brewster along the way for ice cream) and took a stroll around the grounds, headed down to the private beach for drinks at sunset and enjoyed a delicious dinner before retiring to our ultra-cozy room with a king-sized bed (and king-sized bathroom).
On Saturday, we took our time with in-room coffee and a leisurely breakfast on the terrace of the historic Roscommon Room before heading over to the golf club side of the resort. There we kayaked at Blueberry Pond, took a spin on some of the club bicycles and checked out the Nicklaus designed golf course, before heading back over to the ocean. Did I mention that beach chairs and umbrellas are provided on Ocean Edge's private beach? The water is crystal clear and shallow, especially at low tide, which makes for epic beach strolls, and is ideal for playing children (and anyone concerned with shark safety). We headed back up to Ocean Terrace, the resort's signature restaurant with an ocean (and breathtaking sunset) view, for a delightful dinner and exquisite desserts before cuddling by the fire pit.
Sunday was all about eating local - VERY local, as it turns out, as we enjoyed a tour of Brewster Oyster farms. We also spent more time relaxing and lunching on the beach - is there anything better than a beach picnic?
I can't say enough about the service at Ocean Edge - we had so many interesting conversations with the many friendly staff members from around the world. Obviously the location and the amenities of the resort are top-notch, but the exemplary employees made our experience exceptional.
