Red Carpet to Real Life: Academy Awards 2012

Belt and clutch, Zara; Blazer, Romwe

Did you see my list of the Best Dressed at the 2012 Academy Awards yesterday on Tumblr? Any surprises? Since I haven't been able to take outfit photos the past few days (Mr. BF and I were suddenly called out of town) I thought I'd take this golden opportunity (pun totally intended) to take some of my favorite red carpet looks and re-imagine them for real life.

First up, Louise Roe (above). While pink ruffles and shoulder pads may be a tad much for every day, a pale pink blazer paired with a metallic belt and clutch would look très chic with jeans or a black mini! This would be the perfect look for a casual Friday at the office that leads into a date night.

Dress, Cape / Cardigan, ASOS

The red carpet was Gweneth Paltrow's world; everyone else was just living in it. I LOVED this look. Minimal, but daring, she owned the night, fashion-wise. A simple cream colored sheath and cape/cardigan would look elegant, but also casual enough for a Sunday brunch with the girls!

Dress, Halston Heritage via the Outnet, Earrings, Bijoux by Desif

We didn't see a lot of color at the Academy Awards, and you all know how much I love some color...Maria Menounos looked divine in this mint goddess dress - this casual version is so breezy and beautiful it's perfect for the beach this summer - I can just see this thrown on over a bikini to go grab some seafood!

Jacket, Ambiance; Pants, ASOS; Blouse, Equipment

Newcomer Jessica Chastain looked like a red carpet pro in her bespoke McQueen gown. As dramatic as this look is, black and metallic are so classic, the color combination would look perfect for the office. Prepare to be promoted!

  1. This is so creative! The first look is my favorite. And as for the question on "any surprises" at your Best Dressed list, I gotta say I wasn't as big a fan of Meryl's gold lame gown.... But agree that if anyone can pull it off it's her :)

    1. I thought she looked wonderful, too. Her dress was beautiful and the bold shoulder? Now that's how it is done.
