It's Spotty

After all of the conversation yesterday about Outfit Photo Gawkers, on this rainy day I was the only crazy person wandering about in the park. I almost missed my ogling friends, because, if I say so myself (and I do) I love this outfit!

I purchased this dress a few weeks ago on a lazy Sunday while Mr. BF and I were strolling up Newbury Street. We popped into Zara, ostensibly to look at the men's clothing, and this dress was hanging right in front. It practically jumped off the rack and into my gleeful, waiting hands. I essentially lounged in the dressing room, just hanging out in this dress, while Mr. BF shopped.

I received a number of compliments today, but honestly, despite it's obvious appeal, I don't think it was the dress. I think a lot of people don't even notice what you wear, but they certainly notice how you feel while you're wearing it. When you are uncomfortable or uncertain about your clothes, even if they look great, you don't. You end up looking uncomfortable and uncertain! I think this is why we fall into the 20/80 rule of wearing 20% of our clothes 80% of the time - we know we like and feel comfortable in the 20%, so we keep wearing them.

Every time I do a major closet clean out, my goal is to get to the point where the only garments I have in my closet are the things I really love - I want 100% of my closet to by my 20%! It's a work in progress, especially for someone who keeps saying, "Oh, but once I take that to the tailor, it will fit perfectly!". But I know that the more things in my closet that I truly love, the easier it is to get dressed every morning, and the happier I am with my daily sartorial choices. And the happier I am, the more beautiful I am!

How about you? Can you pare your closet down to the things that make you feel amazing? I'd love to hear about your closet-taming experiences! (And check out Awkwardly Chic's Out of the Closet series!) Also, a huge thank you to all who have voted this blog as Best Local Blogger on Boston's A-List. 6. Legs for days in that last picture - wow!

I'm constantly working on a project I like to call "Closet Refinement." I want to know that I could reach blindly into my wardrobe and love absolutely anything I pulled out.

  10. I don't even know where to begin. This outfit is AMAZING on you, Kristen! (I'm also completely stealing this manicure.)

I've spent the last week visiting my mom on vacation and she loves to take me shopping. She thinks everything looks good on me (I know, she's awesome) but I've leaened over the years only to let her buy me things that *I* really love. If I don't absolutely adore it, it just hangs in my closet.

Paring down what's already there is a different story -- I'm not so good at letting go, even if things don't fit or don't make me feel that way. I'm learning, though, and prepping for a move sometime soon is helping. I don't want to pack and move a bunch of things that I never really wear.
